WHO WE ARE:
|
Links to Devotional ResourcesOur world is filled with people of all types. Personalities and past experiences complicate our relationship with God at times; at other times, the relationship is enhanced by those individual traits. God uses various means to speak to people of all backgrounds and personalities through the devotional life. Talking about our devotional life is simply a fancy way of speaking about our day-to-day relationship with God. Sunday is the high point of our week, the day we gather as a community of faith to worship God in a public way. However, our relationship with God is never to be limited to that one experience. Imagine calling one hour a week spent with your spouse a "marriage." God cannot be a meaningful part of our lives on an hour a week. This page of our Web site is devoted to providing visitors with sources of spiritual nourishment during the course of the day. The links will take you to sites that are designed by brothers and sisters in Christ who hope you will find God through their work and words. Not every site will be suitable for every visitor, but our goal is to provide diverse experiences for the spiritual benefit of the entire Body of Christ. Traditional devotional sites:These sites are familiar to many throughout the Church in printed form. They provide visitors with a short Bible reading, a meditation on that scripture and a short prayer on the themes in scripture. These familiar titles provide inspiration and encouragement for everyday faith.
Praying throughout the day: For centuries, Christians have structured their entire day around prayer and the reading of Scripture. This is usually referred to as "praying the Hours." This site provides guidance for building this discipline into your everyday life. The Psalms are the main means of praying in this site. Don't try to do all that this site contains at first. Let it settle into your life in a way that works for you. God will be active in whatever way you find suitable for your day. Prayer of examination and contemplation: This site provides the visitor with an exercise in contemplative prayer based on a particular Scripture reading. This form of prayer opens the pray-er to the transforming power of God's presence. Scripture becomes the central means of shaping our lives as we are conformed to the image of Christ Jesus. Praying with and for the world around us: This site helps us interact with God and the current events of our days. In Indiana, a group of religious women, people who could be considered powerless and somewhat removed from the world, pray for and reflect on the news. Join them by visiting this site and exploring how God helps us engage world events through prayer. Praying our doubts: Vurch.com is an unusual site. It is designed for visitors who are skeptical about Christianity. It provides an E-mail forum for exploration and prayer. If you are someone looking for a safe place to ask difficult questions, then Vurch.com may be a place that can help you live into a new understanding of God's presence and love.
